v1.23 Changelog
Media Player + Presets Exporter Update
1.23.1 Patch
-
Fixed issues with camera sources not properly closing when switching to no media
-
Improve media player stability and error handling
- Reduces crashes related to text files, corrupted media, and unsupported codecs
- Improve error handling when media files fail to load
-
Fix broken links on community page
Media Control Panel
-
Brand new media player and media controls allow you to dial in the look of your media without affecting the rest of the scene, opening up lots of new compositional possibilities
- New Media Controls:
- Media Scale
- Invert Media
- Media Gamma
- Media Hue
- Media Saturation
-
Media Controls currently still function as Meta Controls with respect to Presets, Midi Mapping, and Bank Controls. For instance, if a preset doesn't fire on the Meta Controls channel, it wont change media controls. This may be something we change to allow more flexibility in creating media-only presets in the future.
-
Added timeline with movable playhead to see video playback progress and manually jump through clip with mouse
-
Added info section for currently playing media, showing resolution, codec, fps, and file location
-
Added midi-mappable previous media and next media buttons that will cycle through the media in your currently selected media folder—allowing you to treat media folders more like "media playlists"
-
New control: Media Playback Mode, a dropdown with three options:
- repeat mode (default) will loop the selected video
- play once will clear media when the video finishes (as if you selected “None”)
- play next will load the next media in your folder when one finishes (this can auto-play through your entire media library if you just let it run)
Video File Format Support and Playback Improvements
-
Added support for hundreds of video codecs and file formats, including GIF, HAP, webm, DXV (non-GPU-accelerated), and many more
- Full list of accepted formats can be found here
- This massively expands Synesthesia's capabilities, but format support and performance will still depend heavily on each user's hardware and OS. Moving forward we’ll monitor the performance of the most commonly used file formats to see if any improvements are necessary. If you notice any performance problems, please send us info about the file format and your machine (OS and hardware) to help us diagnose any problems with the new system.
-
Improved video clip launch (no clip startup lag)
-
Improved playback speed for some formats
-
Improved webcam performance
-
Fixed a bug where video device names could load incorrectly, leading to mislabeled video devices in the media panel
-
Added a new setting that allows Windows users to select their camera driver—if a particular device can’t load or runs slowly, try switching to the other driver
-
Thumbnails are now generated in the background, so the process of adding new media folders and refreshing should be faster
Preset Import / Export Tool
-
Now you can easily share presets across machines or with other users using the new Presets Export Tool in the Settings tab
-
You can bulk export all presets or pick and choose which specific scenes or even which specific presets you want to export
-
The tool will generate a Preset Export File and save it in the new “synesthesia-presets” folder in Documents
-
You can then transfer this file to another computer running Synesthesia and select it via the Import Presets button in Settings
UI Improvements
-
UI Scaling
- Added new UI scaling preference to Settings to allow users to adjust the scale of their user interface independently from their OS display scale
- Synesthesia now detects when the scale of your display changes and will adjust the preview window accordingly, fixing an issue where the preview window could be the wrong size for its container
-
Save Scroll Position - User's scroll position is now saved while moving between tabs, making it easier to navigate Synesthesia and build playlists. Scroll position is now saved in the:
- Scene Library
- Playlist
- Built-In Scene Editor
-
Built-In Scene Editor / IDE
- Now shader artists using external code editors can access built-in editor's full functionality
-
